Athlete of the Year Banquet

The Athlete of the Year Banquet honors outstanding athlete students from 24 schools in DeKalb, Cherokee and Etowah counties. The speaker will be Keith Pugh, a Monroeville native, who was a starting wide receiver at Alabama for three seasons, under Bear Bryant. During his career, he ranked as a top five receiver in the SEC. Keith played on teams at Alabama that won two National Championships (1978-1979) and three SEC Championships (1977-1979). 

After graduating from UA, he went on to Trinity Presbyterian School, where he coached before serving for five years as State Director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Alabama. He then served as youth pastor and then pastor at First Baptist Church in Jackson, AL where he stayed for nine years. He moved to Sylacauga, where he became the pastor at First Baptist Church, and stayed for eleven years before returning to Tuscaloosa in 2006 to become pastor of Open Door Baptist Church.
